As the days get shorter and temperatures dip, there are some basic maintenance items that need your attention. Hint: it is about water!
Clean your gutters of all leaves, needles and debris. Clogged gutters overflow and spill water behind the gutters to rot fascia boards. Over flowing or dumping water also can negatively impact on foundations.
Channel your downspouts away from structures to avoid water’s damaging effects to slabs, foundations and crawl spaces.
Clean off moss (gently- never pressure wash) and treat roof with a zinc powder to combat future growth.
Disconnect all hoses and store inside or drain them to avoid the need to replace them next spring.
Insulate hose bibs on the outside of your home to avoid any frozen and broken faucets.
Similarly, wrap and exposed pipes either outside the home or in a crawl space.
And…while it may not be any fun…don’t forget to put away the sun umbrellas, the outdoor cushions, hammock and even cover the barbecue.
